Hanh Chu / over 3000 years old (age is a mystery of woman UwU)
I’ve been drawing since I was a kid — it just stayed with me all the way into high school. But back then, I never thought about working in the TCG industry. Vietnam didn’t really have a strong anime influence yet, so it never crossed my mind as a career path.
Everything changed when I was 22, during my third year of university. I was studying Graphic Design at the time. One day, my friend asked me to come along with her for moral support while she did a drawing test for a Japanese anime TCG company (I had no idea such a company even existed in Vietnam!).
So I tagged along, waited in the lobby, and did what I always did back then — flipping through my little anime portfolio book because phones weren’t as fancy as they are now. While I was sitting there, the CEO just happened to walk by, saw me looking through my artwork, and asked if I was there for the test. I told him, “Oh no, I’m just here supporting my friend!”
Then he asked if I’d like to meet the Art Director. I was super nervous, but they looked through my portfolio… and somehow they were impressed. I still feel blessed thinking about it. And then — without even doing the drawing test , they offered me a junior artist position on the spot.
That moment completely changed my life. I thought I would become a graphic designer, but instead I became an artist drawing anime girls for a living (and yes, they trained me well, even for the lewd projects, haha).
I was schooling but I studied drawing Realistic arts, like well rendered realistic traditional art and Color theory ~ both are meant for Graphic Design career but turn out, they were pretty useful for my artist career. I self taught later as anime artist.
My big inspirations are TeddyPocky, RA ! Their illustrations are really gorgeous and I love their color !
I used to use Paint Tool SAI before (still love the brush feels) but it crashes sooo easily so now I switch to Clip Studio Paint. I also using half half in between Photoshop and Clip Studio because of they have different tools.
I’d say my biggest strength is flexibility — I started out drawing in realistic and semi-realistic styles, so I became quite comfortable illustrating a wide range of subjects: characters, creatures, monsters, and even backgrounds. But I’m still struggling if the whole illustration is too complex, then I will forget how to balance everything.
But of course, I’m not perfect! There are definitely areas I’d like to improve. Mecha and robots are still a big challenge for me, and drawing very young characters (around 15 and under) doesn’t come naturally to me. Meanwhile… drawing elegant anime ladies? Big curves? That’s definitely my comfort zone, haha.
The very very first card I did for them. VALERIA RURIK !! Cause I love drawing lewd and elegant so when they gave me that card, I WAS SUPER HAPPY !!!
NIKKE: The Goddess of Victory
Hmmm I do have a dream goal but it sounds...a bit impossible for me. I want my art to look sooo good like other god tier artists and AmiAmi decided to make figures based on my illustration. That would be cool ! or you know...there is a big tv screen or maybe billboard in Akihabara showcasing a new game; I want my art to one day be up there....Maybe one day when I’m good enough.
Don’t give up ! and don't isolate yourself cause drawing sometimes can be lonely. And when you are alone, lonely, the negative thoughts will find their way to you and make you feel...not sure about what you want to do. Having friends to hangout with and enjoying life will bring you more happy thoughts and they will keep you going on a long journey. Also practice and get out of your comfort zone is great too ! Don’t be afraid to try new things.
