Zym / @artbyzym
I started drawing as young as I could remember. From drawing houses, family portraits to trains. I started transitioning it into something more professional when I realized I do have the talent to draw and I really do enjoy it. Enjoying and loving what I create is the most crucial part to make me decide to take it seriously.
As for education, I went through the usual route. Nothing really special. Just that every time I could choose between taking an Art class or any other, I'll choose the art route. Same goes when I reach to do my diplomas, I took the Diploma in Animation as that was the closest to my interests at that time. The interest at that time being Anime and Art. And ever since graduating, I've just been drawing ever since.
As for inspirations, one of my earliest teachers that I learned art from and even tried to copy his artstyle was Mark Crilley, an art Youtuber. Learning how to draw details onto the background, a little on how to draw an anime character and such.
Another inspiration I have would be the anime and cartoons that I have watched. Naruto, Avatar, One Piece, etc.
One more inspiration I would love to mention which not a lot of people give attention to is Graffiti! A very unique artstyle. An artstyle that is very free and original in its own way.
My current preferred medium is digital art. I've been drawing with pencils and color pencils for years now and when I started doing it digitally, I just simply fell in love with it. No doubt it's not the same as creating art physically but for now it fulfills my wants and needs. Eventually I will be playing around with paper again but for now, I'm happy with my monitor tablet.
My strengths are in character posing and just drawing anime-like characters. I do draw creatures as well, just not as often. An area I would definitely want to improve are backgrounds. Creating them in a more effective way but still keep it looking great.
To be able to sell my artworks as prints and probably even some merch.
Make my own Manga/Comic book
Make my own Anime
These are some huge goals and may not even be achievable within 5 years. But it is definitely something I would like to go for. At least, give it a try.
Find what you love to draw or create. From there you will find your way. Doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. But never forget to enjoy whatever you're creating.
